I’m Andy Kenney. In print, I’m Andrew.

I’m a writer, researcher and photographer living in Denver, Colo. I recently finished a six-year stint at The News & Observer in Raleigh, N.C., and I’m now a full-time freelancer. I have recently worked for Our State Magazine, Walter Magazine and Tablet Magazine.

During my newspaper career, I covered tiny rural towns, the suburban kingdom of Cary, the night-shift crime beat and, most recently, the city of Raleigh and Wake County.

You’ll also find my exploratory work in data-driven journalism here. Among other projects, I have used geographic data to create an interactive map of a truly massive development plan, I have distilled social-media conversations into infographics and I have used open-source software to show the true impact of redistricting on local politics.

My freelance work lately has included longer features about athletics that aren’t football and basketball – e.g. falconry, track, crew – and my semi-Communist grandfather’s fascist-fighting adventure to Spain.

I tell you all this in the hopes that you’ll give me some work, or some good advice.
